Jake Smith

For a number of years, Jake Smith, has been guiding fishermen to some of the best spots for muskie, northern pike, walleye, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass and bluegills in Wisconsin's Oneida, Vilas, and Price counties.  Whether you are looking for a day of "hunting the mighty muskie" or a "wintertime ice fishing trip", Jake is a 4 seasons fishing guide who can provide you with an exceptional "northwoods fishing trip".

As a tournament fisherman, Jake is a member of Mirrocraft boats, Frabil, Minncota, and humminbird Pro Staffs.  He has plenty of techniques and tricks to help make your day on the water that much better.  You will be fishing out of a Mirrocraft Boat with a Mercury motor to get you out to where the fish are fast.

Whether you're a veteran out to hook that "fish of a a lifetime" or just starting out.  Jake also likes to teach first timers, especially kids, and while he can't guarantee a trophy to every beginner, he can at least guarantee that they will learn a lot of new techniques and have a great day on the water.  And for a small additional charge, I can turn your catch into an unforgettable, old-fashioned shore lunch. 

Families and large groups are not a problem, Smitty Bait and Guide Service has several expert guides to help with big outings.  We will take any size group, any time of the year.  We own several ice fishing shacks which can be transported to a variety of lakes in the wintertime and can do split days of fishing and duck hunting, for those looking for a bit of variety.  We can provide rods, reels, tackle, life jackets, and a camera; everything you need.

Russ Smith

Russ Smith is the owner of Smity Baity and Guide Service in Minocqua, Wisconsin.  For more than thirty years that he has been fishing the waters of Oneida and Vilas counties, Russ has helped hundreds of fishermen hook that special musky, walleye, northern pike, or bass with their name on it.

Russ even had the honor of helping Tom Peterson get his name in the record books (3 World Line Class Records for muskies on a fly).  But it doesn't make a difference if you're a beginner, weekend warrior, or world champion; Russ make it my goal to provide every client with the gear, guidance, and good company they need to have fun and, more of than not, catch something to impress the friends back home.

While Russ guides for all species, using a variety of methods, fly fishing for muskies is his special passion (even more so when live bait's involved).  Russ fishes in a 165 Princecraft boat with a Johnson motor, and uses a pair of 10' oars to help get around in the shallows where the trophy fish like to hide.  If you enjoy fly fishing as much as Russ does, then you're in for a great time.  And if you've never tried it before, he will be more than happy to show you the basics.

At Smity Guide Service, we provide rods, reels, tackle, life jackets, and a camera  - everything you need.  Families and large groups are more than welcome - we have several expert guides on staff, including my son Jake, to help with big groups.  And if you want to make your fishing trip into a real party, given advance notice and a small additional charge to cover costs, we can cook you up a shore lunch that you'll talk about all the way home.
